SMERTIN NOT GOING TO SIT ON THE BENCH

Alexey Smertin shares his impressions on the previous season in Fulham.

Fulham midfielder Alexey Smertin commented on the previous season as well as on his possible return to the Russian national team.

"I would say that the previous season was somewhat ambiguous", said Smertin to Sport Express.

"At first it was going well, but then I was forced to be sidelined through injury troubles, while my club was one step from relegation."

"I am 33-year-old already and I am full with ambitions. The coaches in the club come and go, but I don’t want to sit on the bench all the time."

"My contract with Fulham will terminate in a year and I don’t know what I will do next."

"I am still one of the best at trainings, and examinations showed that I am much younger than in reality."

"I believe Dynamo job was a very useful experience for me as I took another points of view on my career in England."

"As for my possible comeback to the Russian team, it’s up to Guus Hiddink to decided this question."

"I watch my national team’s matches, and I still feel myself to be a part of this team."
