Sergei Chikalkin is a top-class scorer, who can drive to the hole and score or draw fouls, or stay outside and fire away from the perimeter.
He grew up with Stroitel BK Samara youth teams. Chikalkin made his official debut with BK Samara during the 1992-93 season. Chikalkin spent there there three years before he was signed for the 1998-99 season by Avtodorozhnik Saratov. The next year Chikalkin moved to Ural Great Perm, a club whose fans still remember their favourite. The year in Perm was a success for the guard as he led Ural Great to the Russian National Championship and NEBL title. Chikalkin was chosen MVP of the tournaments. Despite the great love from the fans Chikalkin moved to Italy for the 2001-02 season, signed by Pallacanestro Treviso. The Russian player did not get lost in Italy as he helped Pallacanestro clinch the 2001 Italian Super Cup. The Italian domestic championship winner then moved to Unics Kazan for the season 2002-03 to lead his team to FIBA and Russia Cup titles and the bronze of the Russian Superleague. The successful performance caught the eye of basketball team managers as he had a difficult choice to make ahead of the next season. Chikalkin eventually settled in BC Kyiv with which he captured the silver (2004) and the gold (2005) of the Ukrainian domestic championships.
The shooting guard is currently playing for Unic Kazan, with which Chikalkin has captured a number of titles and stopped one step short of making Euroleague as Unics lost to Real Madrid in ULEB Cup finals.
As for the national side performance, Chikalkin used to be member of the Russian Under-22 National Team In 1996 he was capped for the team at European Under-22 Championship. On being promoted to the main team Chikalkin played at the 2000 Olympic Games, at the 2001 European Championship and the 2002 World Championship.
