Viktor Khryapa was born in 1982, in Kyiv, Ukraine. Prior to coming to the NBA, he played professionally in Russia with CSKA Moscow from 2002-04 and with Autodor Saratov from 2000-02. In 2004 he helped CSKA Moscow reach the Euroleague Final Four in Tel Aviv. At 19 years of age, he was the youngest player on the Russian National Team that played in the 2002 World Championships.

He was the 22nd overall selection of the 2004 NBA Draft, chosen by the New Jersey Nets and subsequently traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. On June 28, 2006 Khryapa was traded to the Chicago Bulls by Portland, along with the draft rights to Tyrus Thomas, for the draft rights to LaMarcus Aldridge.

Viktor Khryapa spent his first two NBA seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers. He has made 101 NBA appearances, including 58 starts.

Versatility is considered to be one of his main strengths as he can play impressive set offense. Khryapa repertoire includes blowing past a defender for a monster dunk, hitting the trey if he has the time to set his feet or making the double team pay with a perfect pass. Back door cuts have become a useful weapon which indicates he is adept at the strategic side of the game. He knows how to play the low post game when matched up with a smaller player. Besides, his wingspan is huge which makes him a good shot blocker.

In February 2008 Viktor returned to Russian league, CSKA Moscow.
