RUSSIA STARTS WITH A WIN

Russian U-21 team won the opening match of the 2011 UEFA European championship qualifying stage against Andorra.

Russia vs. Andorra 4:0 (3:0)

Goals: Ionov, 14; Ryzhov, 20; Mamaev, 33 (pen); Kozlov, 88

The match in Krasnodar was supposed to attract more supporters than in Moscow, however early kickoff didn’t let many people come to the stadium. The game itself was much easier than the previous exhibition match against Krasnodar-2000.

Ionov and Ryzhov took Russia ahead early in the first half and Mamaev made the score 3-0 with a clear strike from penalty spot.

Igor Kolyvanov’s team made the first step towards participation in the Olympic Games-2012 in London, as the best teams of the Youth European championship-2011 will deserve this honor.

"I am pleased with players’ attitude to the game", said Kolyvanov to Sport Express after the final whistle. "The second half was more difficult, but we could have scored six, seven or even eight goals. The course of the whole qualifying campaign depends on its start".
